What to do in Prague over the weekend
The capital of Czech republic, Prague is rich in history, art and the typical European city charm. Red brick buildings, Gothic churches and the infamous astronomical clock are some of the attributes making Prague a must visit city. Just like the rest of Europe travelling to Prague is easy, convenient and quick so it makes perfect sense to visit Prague on a weekend getaway. For the culture vultures the city is blessed with a collection of sights and historical architecture that can only be appreciated by a few. The largest Castle in the world, a UNESCO heritage with tradition and history of over 1000 years ago, the Prague Castle is a monument that deserves your attention. The castle opens up for the public by 6am so if you are an early riser it might be helpful to start early to avoid the tourist crowds that come during the day. The Castle is set on a hill overlooking the city, the interior is just as it was back in the day and you can almost feel what it would have been like to be a ruler. There are plenty of small cafes to take a break at while making your way through the building. This may take a few hours of your weekend so start early leaving time to explore the rest of the city.
Lennon Wall
Whether you love the Beatles or don’t you probably are aware of John Lennon, the main singer and songwriter of the group. The band was one of the most famous bands to exist and still hold certain records to this day. Imagine was one of Lennon’s most famous songs and was also the last song he wrote. After his murder in 1980 Czech youth created a wall of graffiti in honor of him. While authorities tried to color wash over it many times over the years, locals and tourists alike kept the wall alive. Ranging from political statements, remnants of Lennon’s face and messages from passersby’s the Lennon Wall is still screaming in color and significance.
