What to do in the city?

Vienna has many attractions that are on the list of places to visit but here are some of places we recommend.

The Belvedere Christmas markets is easily no 1 on the list. The markets starts from November 19th to December 26th. Here you can find a variety of arts and crafts, Christmas treats and souvenirs to take back home. The market is open throughout the day but comes alive at night with the Christmas lights.

Christmas market held in Rathausplatz is another must visit market in a different part of the city. It is the largest Christmas market in Vienna, this too operates from mid-November until boxing day. You must try the Christmas treats here. The Viennese Christmas cookies are highly recommended. You should visit this market in the night to take in the lights and lit Christmas decorations. It can be quite crowded but is totally worth it.

Watch a Strauss and Mozart Christmas performance. Orchestras and musicians across the country come together to hold a concert during November and December to perform famous classical music pieces by both composers. Whether you love classical music or not this is something that you ought to experience.

Vienna’s Christmas cookies are one of the many delights that are available at these markets or local grocery stores. Some of the most common are Vanillekipferl which are vanilla crescents, kokosbusserl known as coconut macaroons and zimtsterne which are cinnamon stars. Others include almond balls and ox eye cookies.

Where should you wine and dine?

This Michelin star, fine dining restaurant is a top pick restaurant to visit for Christmas. Amador is headed by Chef Juan Amador who creates sensational German-Spanish cuisine set in a stunning wine cellar. The restaurant provides a range of seasonal dishes that are worth the try.  You may need to make a reservation in advance as they do get busy during the holidays.

 Pramel and the wolf

Here you can indulge in first-class food but in a uncomplicated, beisl ambience. Awarded Michelin stars for its excellent Viennese food without all the fuss of haute cuisine. During Christmas you can enjoy seasonal dishes on your way to exploring Vienna.

 Kleinod

A bar that you can dance in sounds like a great way to enjoy the holidays in Vienna. At Kleinod you can choose from different types of beverages on the deck or just good music on the ground floor. Christmas in Vienna is usually spent with families but you are sure to run into some good company.

 The sign
